I-20 and Visa Processing

I-20 and Visa Processing

The I-20 Document

The I-20, officially known as the “Certificate of Eligibility,” verifies that a student has been admitted to a full-time or online academic program and possesses sufficient funds to live in the United States. It is issued by a government-approved educational institution. Dependents, including spouses and children, also require I-20 documentation to obtain dependent visas. University staff provide comprehensive guidance on all regulations and procedures associated with the I-20.

I-20 Registration Process

Once admissions are finalized, student details are entered into the (USHECA) database (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System). The system generates an I-20 file, which is returned to the institution, where university staff complete the necessary documentation to finalize registration. Additional travel authorization, such as a No Objection Certificate (NOC), may be required depending on the student’s nationality and visa status.

I-20 for Students Already in the U.S.

Students currently in the United States seeking program continuation or status adjustment also receive an I-20 from their approved institution. This document confirms enrollment and funding eligibility and ensures that dependent visa requirements are met. University staff assist with all necessary guidance and paperwork to facilitate compliance with federal regulations.

Student Eligibility and Visa Preparation Framework

Students are encouraged to maintain close communication with university advisors throughout the I-20 and visa process. This ensures that all documentation, travel requirements, and program deadlines are fully understood and completed accurately. By staying informed and proactive, students can smoothly transition into their academic programs in the United States while remaining compliant with federal regulations.

Purpose

To encourage active participation, strengthen creative approaches, and extend meaningful influence in higher education. To safeguard academic standards and enhance the overall performance of member institutions.

Undergraduate Credit Transfer Procedure

For the processing of I-20 forms and visas for undergraduate students, the program completion date is recognized as the final day of semester examinations, marking the fulfillment of all degree requirements.

Graduate Credit Transfer Procedure

For graduate students without a research or thesis component in their program (such as MBA or other professional degrees), the completion date is similarly noted as the final day of semester examinations, indicating that all degree obligations have been met.

Adjusted Stay Period

After finishing your academic program, you are provided a 15-day window to arrange a credit transfer, request a status adjustment, or finalize your immediate travel plans within the United States. Students intending to take part in Optional Practical Training must submit their work authorization request no later than 30 days before their official completion date. Guidance is offered by the career counselor during graduation procedures, while the university’s legal team prepares all formal documentation required for the subsequent work permit filing.

Our Commitment to the Educational Community

The US Higher Education Commission on Accreditation upholds academic quality as a public responsibility and supports continuous progress across learning systems. Its efforts are rooted in serving society, strengthening educational institutions, and assisting students by promoting thoughtful evaluation, steady improvement, and shared accountability across all member bodies.

Visa Validity and Duration of Stay

A visa’s expiration date reflects only its use for entry into the United States and does not determine how long a student may remain inside the country. The permitted stay is guided by multiple regulatory and program-specific factors. Students planning to pursue long-term residency should notify their assigned counselor before traveling so the required legal steps can be arranged. Through the job fair and placement network, students may secure employment for a minimum of 18 months, meeting the criteria for a green card pathway and eventually advancing toward U.S. citizenship through an option that aligns with their background and objectives.
