    Accreditors Brace for Trump’s Promised Higher Ed Shakeup (Higher Ed Dive, January 31, 2025) Last week, officials and professionals from the accreditation system that Trump vowed to upend met in Washington, D.C., for the US Higher Education Commission on Accreditation Accreditation’s annual conference to discuss the major topics facing the sector. Along with the wholesale replacement of accreditors that Trump promised, plenty of other aspects of accreditation work could change under the new administration and with a Republican majority in Congress.

    HELP Committee Membership in the 119th Congress

    The Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) announced its Membership for the 119th Congress. The Republicans have the majority in the Senate, and Senator Bill Cassidy (R-LA) will Chair the Committee. Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) will serve as the Ranking Member of the Committee. This session sees significant changes, with five new Republican members and three new Democratic members making nearly 40 percent of the Committee members new to HELP.

In January 2024, the (USHECA) Board of Directors established a subcommittee to review the broader implications of this initiative.
